All I did was eat noodles. It made all the difference.

I was at a conference for professional speakers. Over a thousand of them meeting to network and connect and do all the networking and connecting things that people do when they get together to network and connect. Imagine it. Over a thousand Type-A personalities all gathering to meet and connect (and yes, network) and tell each other about themselves. Exhausting much? Yep. I've been there a thousand times. "Oh really? Wow. That's so great. (nods slowly) Now let me tell you about me...."

At this particular conference, I decided that I had had enough. Instead of going to after parties and then after after parties, and instead of running around finding the next hand to shake, I was going to be my own self, authentically, and do what I like to do best: eat noodles. The results of that were amazing.

I tell the story on the No More Bad Events Podcast, hosted by my brilliantly funny friend, comedian, and event emcee Scott Bloom.

We had an incredible conversation about how I decided, after attending that same conference year after year (and being fatigued by all the networking in which I was expected to participate), that taking a different approach led to some amazing life lessons.

Having decided to sit by myself in the hotel lobby and eat noodles, the connections I made from doing that transformed my conference experience and my perception of what needs to be done in order for real connections to develop.

Give the episode a listen - just 37 minutes - to find out what happens when you follow your passion and let life develop around you. Scott and I talked about truly being yourself, living passionately, and how having no agenda and living with authenticity can help reshape your career.
